Snow Plowing & Other Winter Policies
WINTER PARKING
Residents are asked to use off-street parking during and after snowfall events and after high-wind events which have caused snow to blow and drift in the street. Off-street parking should be utilized until your street has been plowed curb-to-curb.
Vehicles that have been parked on the street longer than twenty-four (24) hours after a snowfall event and have prohibited the complete clearing of the street shall be in violation of the Ordinance and are subject to towing.
SIDEWALKS
Property owners/residents of property abutting a public sidewalk are responsible for snow and ice removal on the sidewalk. Sidewalks must be cleared within 36 hours after the snow ceases to fall. If the sidewalk is not cleared by the designated time the City will hire it done at a charge to the property owner of $50.00 per time. Any costs not paid will be certified to Blue Earth County for collection with property taxes.
MAILBOXES
It shall be the responsibility of the resident to remove snow around mailboxes.
OBSTACLES IN THE ROAD RIGHT-OF-WAY
There shall be no temporary obstructions such as garbage containers, recycling bins, basketball poles/hoops or obstacles and items of any kind placed on the road right-of-way, boulevard, street or alley in such a manner as to interfere with snow plowing and snow removal operations.
CITY NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR DAMAGE
The City will not be responsible for damage to vehicles, fences, play equipment, basketball hoops, landscaping items and other objects parked or placed on the City road right-of-way. The City road right-of-way is approx. 10' from the curb or the edge of the street on uncurbed streets.
