Medication Drop-Off Site

Drop-Off Site for Expired and Unused Medications.

The Blue Earth County Environmental Services Dept., the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Dept., Xcel Energy and Mayo Clinic Health System have partnered to bring a Medication Collection Program to Blue Earth County residents.

HOURS:  8 am - 5 pm (Monday-Friday)                                         

Items ALLOWED
-  Prescription Medications
-  Over the Counter Medications
-  Narcotics and Other Controlled Substances
-  Medication Samples
-  Pet Medications
-  Vitamins and Supplements
-  Medicated Ointments and Lotions
-  Inhalers
-  Liquid Medications in Glass or Leak-proof Containers

Items NOT ALLOWED
-  Needles, Syringes or other Sharps

-  Thermometers
-  IV Bags
-  Bloody or Infectious Waste
-  Hydrogen Peroxide
-  Business Waste 

For disposal through the Blue Earth County Medication Collection Program, medications do not need to be in the original container. 

Remove as much packaging as possible. 

Containers with liquid contents should be placed in a plastic bag. 

Medications dropped-off at the collection site are taken directly to an incinerator, where a deputy watches their destruction.
